A-Z Challenge 'A': Acceptance
It is amazing, that through the course of one's life, our definition of acceptance changes. As teens, we crave acceptance as though it was air, from our peers, & those we have an interest in dating. As graduation looms, we pray & beg to be accepted into the elite of colleges. After college, we want to be accepted into the best jobs available. We seek acceptance from our mates, too. The wedding rings themselves sybolize that someone has accepted us for life. But, as life ends, by whatever means it occurs- we run from acceptance. We don't wish to accept our fate. We don't wish to accept death for our parents or spouses, either. The one thing we couldn't live without now becomes the one thing we can't live with at all.

What a beautiful piece on acceptance :) Looking forward to reading the rest of your challenges, Liz!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. I enjoyed this post.
ReplyDeleteAcceptance is hard when we don't like the end result--especially when it involves death. But I've come to learn that acceptance of the not-so-pleasant is critical to peace. That doesn't mean we have to like it, though.
ReplyDeleteProvocative post. Acceptance doesn't come easy and as the intensity increases I imagine our resistance does as well.
