Book Review: 'Lovely,Dark & Deep'- Julia Buckley
The hit & run death of a young nun has become a cold case. Old clues, lack of witnesses, & a Priest urging silence aren't helping. When an older nun decides, 10 years later, that the victim deserves justice & the police aren't enough, she calls the one person she knows will help.
Madeline Mann, fresh off another murder case, is supposed to be a simple journalist. However, her lust for the truth always seems to wedge her deeper than she intends to go. But, someone doesn't want this one solved. Can Madeline put the puzzle together before there's another victim-maybe herself?
This is a cute mystery, very light & clean. YA fans would definitely enjoy it. There are several sexual situations; however, they're not graphic or lengthy. Our heroine is able-minded & believeable. She's got gumption for sure. Nancy Drew comes to mind, if she'd been a bit older.
The side story of Madeline's family adds dimension without flowing off course. The clues are keep veiled enough to keep you guessing. I had it figured all wrong until the end. The characters are well-played without any head-scratching extras.
'Lovely,Dark & Deep' is a good curling-up-in-a-big-comfy-chair kind of read. When the verdict is delivered, it's a 5 of 5 star rating.
