Book Review: 'Healing In The Hurting Places'

In the wake of such tragedies as the Sandusky & “Priest” molestation cases, we’re left wondering who’s helping the victims. The predators have received their justice, but that doesn’t exactly heal the wounds left behind.

For those who’ve suffered & those who love them, it may be impossible to determine why these things have happened. Truly, life for the victims is changed forever. For Karen F. Riley, she chose a path that led her to Spiritual healing.

As our author tells of her circumstances, she dwells more on emotion than on the details. This shows the strength of her character. Transparent with all her inner struggles, she voices the uncomfortable memories.

By relying on her faith in God, she has overcome obstacles that have hindered others. Carefully, she examines her own secrets in order to give others the courage to examine theirs.

Loved ones can also find some refuge in this book. Gently, she encourages in both what to say and what not to say. There may be readers who will pick up on certain clues she gives, resulting in help for secret keepers in their lives.

Parents of victims, spouses of victims, & of course, victims themselves would be doing themselves a favor by reading this book. Surely, they’re bombarded by well-meaning folk with a variety of self-help materials. However, turning to Christ is the help the Karen needed.

Her story is a victorious one. While its topic is neither happy nor comfortable, we cannot pretend its horrors don’t exist. The fact that she wrote with such grace, honesty & desires to help others makes it so much more than a tragedy. Beauty from ashes is more appropriate.

How brave of her! One can only imagine the intestinal fortitude it took to put this story to print! But, on the other hand, imagine how many survivors will be strengthened & inspired.

Her bravery will carry her to literary success as she blesses others. Such courage deserves nothing less than a 5 of 5 star rating.

I received 1 eBook copy to write my review. No other compensation was provided. I was under no obligation to write a positive review.

  1. i always think about the victim....the person who did the crime may have been put away, but the victim still has a lifetime of healing to. An old friend of mine (sadly our friendship is over) was molested as a child and she never got the help she needed. Her mother tried to make her go to therapy and whatnot but she refused to talk about it. She's still suffering with it, because her mother wasn't persistent enough. So far I like this book.
