Labor Day is
supposed to contain no labor, right? Wrong. With 3 sons, there is plenty of
labor. Here I was thinking all was well. No issues. Wrong-again.
Nothing went right. I’ll admit I
procrastinated this summer. Laptops should’ve been updated. But, I put it off
until the last minute. It also didn’t help that the hubs, who was off for a
full week, spent his last day of vacation playing PS3 all day.
I spent 3 hours at the living room
coffee table, trying to get 3 months’ worth of updates installed- much to the
chagrin of the oldest. He figured & voiced that it’s a living room &
that I should plant myself elsewhere.
About this same time, the other 2
decided to play with a beach ball- in their bedroom. I simultaneously scolded
them & shooed the oldest out. After another hour, it became obvious that
our slow-as-all-get-out internet wasn’t helping.
So, I hurriedly put a rub on the pork
chops. Then I ran to tell the hubs that I had to go find some Wi-Fi. 20 minutes
after I left, he realized what I had told him.
Located
Wi-Fi, downloaded all updates, & I put gas in his truck. Booked it home.
Walked in the house & I am met by the 2 oldest who want to go out with a
friend. But, I’m about to grill. Oh, they’ll eat later. Sigh, ok. Be home by
8:30- it’s a school night. Ok, ok.
I grill, clean up & hubs is
still playing. At 8, no sign of kids. At 8:30, put youngest to bed & call
the middle son. No answer. 3 mores times-zip. Texts are sent to both. No reply.
Now, I’m irked. At exactly 9 PM,
they arrived. Which part of 8:30 did you miss? The oldest asks, ‘What’? Middle
son says ‘It’s all his fault’- pointing at his brother. Eat. Bed. Go! Hubs
plays on.
Little brother gloats. He went to
bed on time. Tee Hee. At last, at 10, all are quiet & bedded down. Labor
Day- my butt. I’m ready for bed. Hubs is still playing……
